The purpose of the refining process is to separate the constituent compounds of crude oil and convert them into finished products with the highest added value. In general, this action goes hand in hand with the production of so-called light fractions and coincides with the reduction of the viscosity. Speaking about high boiling points fractions and residues, the viscosity can be considered as indicative of the quality and value of the product. The higher the viscosity, the lower the added value. Management of the streams flow rates and composition is a key condition of distillation process control. Process viscometer finds its place on the bottom stream where viscosity gives a direct information about the capacity to flow and an indirect measurement of the quality of the stream.
