Method for measuring fluid viscosity using a process viscometer with a piezoelectric sensor crystal that has a high frequency electrical field applied to it. The viscosity of the fluid is determined by the effect of the fluid shear stress in preventing or limiting movement of the crystal. The method is applicable to determining ink viscosity. The invention also relates to a corresponding method for adjusting the design viscosity of ink by addition of solvent so that the viscosity is varied until the degree of coverage of a print substrate reaches a desired value.
