EVALUATION OF DAIRY MANAGEMENT PRACTICES ON JAPANESE DAIRY FARMS; RELATIONSHIPS TO BULK TANK SCC AND INDIVIDUAL LINEAR SCORES

In Japan, veterinarians surveyed milking management practices at 1373 dairy farms. Objective questions about milking procedures (Yes/No) were used. DHIA personnel scored milking procedures at 818 of these dairy farms. Associations between milking procedures, milking system, Bulk Tank SCC (BTSCC) and Linear Scores (SCS) were evaluated. A statistical analysis was performed utilizing a Student Mest, one-way ANOVA, and a multi variate statistical analysis. BTSCC decreased from 163,000 to 137,000 and SCSdeclined from 2.65 to 2.35 as the number of milking management practices increased. BTSCC increased from 203,000 to 283,000 and SCS increased from 2.96 to 3.76 as the number of practices decreased. Differences were significant at p<0.05.
