Dairymen across the globe have high expectations regarding milk production and milk quality. Dairy enterprises continue to expand to improve their efficiency. While the wave of dairy expansion that occurred prior to 2008 in the USA has slowed, it is common to see dairies milking 3,000 to 5,000 cows two or three times per day. In the USA and Mexico, dairy farms have grown in size steadily as family enterprises expand through asset growth and reinvestment. By contrast in many other countries, dairy growth has accelerated much more rapidly through venture capital investors or with government support. In Russia for example, government loans for capital facility expansion and for cattle procurement are forgiven after several years of successful businessperformance. In China, large dairies are constructed and crops are grown for feed on land owned by the government but leased to dairy companies at significantly lower rates than normal.
