Streptococcus uberis is a major bovine mastitis pathogen throughout the world. This species has a great variety of metabolic and nutritional flexibility but relatively few classical streptococcal virulence factors. The pathogenesis and virulence factors required for S. uberis intramammary infection (IMI) is not well understood. Aims of the present study were to investigate the distribution of virulence-associated genes of S. uberis isolated in northern Thailand, and to determine the association of the presence of those genes with severity of IMI.
