Research and extension programs have stressed certain management practices to reduce the incidence rate of clinical mastitis (IRCM) and reduce bulk milk somatic cell count. Many papers have been published from the USA and from Europe on this topic (Barkema et al., 1998; Rodrigues et al., 2005). The level of compliance to these recommended management practices, however, was undocumented in Canada, except for a few studies performed in certain provinces or studies carried out in the early nineties. Dairy farming has changed a lot the last decades. The objectives of this study was to determine risk factors for the IRCM on Canadian dairy farms.
