A DELPHI STUDY ON SUPPLY CHAIN FLEXIBILITY

A review of the literature on flexibility reveals that much of the focus has been on manufacturing flexibility. More recently supply chain flexibility has been recognized as important to meet customer demand. An on- line Delphi study is used to gain consensus from a group of expert practitioners on the characteristics that make a supply chain flexible. Results indicate there are numerous characteristics viewed as important for supply chain flexibility. Having visibility to customer demand and synchronizing to demand through efficient information flows, short lead times, short cycle times, and with accurate and timely data were identified as most important to increase supply chain flexibility.
