摘要

A 35 year old snake breeder was bitten on the left foot by a middle American pit viper Crotalus durissus dryinas which had escaped.Crotalus durissus dryinas is about 1.5 m long and one of the most dangerous of the 7 known subspecies found in Guyana, Surinam, French Guyana and north-east Brazil. The venom is myotoxic, proteolytic hemorrhagic, neurotoxic and produces edema [5]. Initial paralysis can occur within 30 minutes to one hour (usually after 6 hours), and appears as ptosis, with disturbances of vision and of swallowing [2, 3, 8]. There is no antiserum, neither is there any report for the effectiveness of Mexican or Brazilian polyvalent antisera for Crotalus durissus species [6, 8,10}.
