Survey on the Vocabularies for Evaluating Room Acoustic Performance in Catholic Church Sanctuaries

This study aims to extract Korean vocabularies appropriate for the evaluation of acoustic performance in Catholic church sanctuaries and to minimize them through factor analysis based on empirical evidence. Korean vocabularies representing sound were composed of 657 adjectives which were collected by a survey of existing studies on sound and room acoustic evaluation. A series of discussion and questionnaire items was used in order to reduce the vocabularies. Finally, 20 vocabularies were extracted and used in a questionnaire evaluating the acoustic performance in a group of eleven object sanctuaries. From the results of our analysis, four independent factors were extracted to be used in the evaluation of the acoustic performance of Catholic church sanctuaries.
