An experimental tire engraved the simple cavity into the tread of a slick tire was provided instead of the behavior measurement of the tire tread groove. During running the trailer which equipped the experimental tire on the dense asphalt pavement, the changes of the volume of the cavity and air pressure in the cavity at the contact patch were measured by the use of strain gauge and the micro pressure gauge that were attached in the cavity, respectively. It is clear that air pressure in the cavity changes from negative tendency to positive tendency corresponding to the deformation of the cavity from tensive condition to compressive condition at the contact patch. It follows from the result that the generating mechanism of tire/road noise is estimated.
