Gold Implants in Humans Is it effective?

The Traditional Chinese acupuncture involves placing needles into the subcutaneous tissues along predefined meridians, which are removed after the treatment. Gold implantation is a peculiar form of acupuncture, involving the permanent placement of small gold beads into the subcutaneous tissues. Although this form of acupuncture is not usual, it is being used more frequently in chronic processes in veterinary medicine in the West. This study reports the clinical findings of 2 human patients submittedto this form of acupuncture, describing the implications and clinical evaluation. The implants were performed for an arthritic painful knee and a sore back problem related with a traumatic disc disease resulting in paraplegia. The Chinese pattern for those western diseases are presented, as well as the technique, problems with the technique, points used and the results.
