Determination of Gold Accumulation in Human Tissues Caused by Gold Therapy Using X-Ray Fluorescence Analysis

Human autopsy tissues from five patients with rheumatoid arthritis treated earlier with aqueous solution of gold and those from untreated control with the same disease were analyzed by x-ray fluorescence spectrometry using a conventional Si(Li) detection system. The gold and zinc concentrations of tissues were determined and compared with literature data. Correlation was found between Zn and Au concentrations in heart, lung, kidney and liver tissues. 12 refs.; 9 figs. (Atomindex citation 18:012272)
