Chemical reaction between silver nitrate and L-ascorbic acid has been studied extensively. Typical feature of the reaction is summarized that silver precipitates simply regardless of reaction conditions such as PH and temperature, and that particle size, its distribution and appearance of the silver powder vary from one to other by selecting the condition, in other words versatile powders could be produced. We have thoroughly reviewed the reaction to newly develop silver powders specializing in thick film paste suitable for LTCC application. Original mono-dispersed silver powder processed on particular conditions enabled the paste to meet the requirements of the future trend such as capability of 50 m printing and excellent compatibility with ceramics.
