摘要

Protein-mediated cell adhesion is essential for a multitude of critical biological processes including development and immune recognition. The cell surface proteins mediate interceullar adhesion. These macromoleculcs have unusual molecular structures, which play an important role in their function. Direct force measurements showed that these unusual architectures generate novel binding mechanisms that may both stabilize adhesive junctions under applied force and facilitate their assembly.
