Perspectives on Long-Term Growth and Yield Following Intensive Management

My perspective on intensive management may be somewhat different than that of most Forest Vegetation Management Conference attendees since my experience is primarily with slash (Pinus elliottii Engelm.) and loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) in the Southrather than with western species. In spite of that, I think that many of the same general principles will hold, and it is worthwhile to look at our experience. We have been using intensive management for a rotation and this experience should give you some idea of how growth and yield for your species might be affected as you change your management.
