KEEPING 'MURPHY' OUT OF INTGRATION, OR HOW TO BEST AIM FOR A FLAWLESS INSTALL

One of the most basic tenets of achieving mission success when integrating a new or updated system is demonstrating that it can be done while minimizing or eliminating any operational impact. This paper will focus on the key challenges that must be considered as early as the design and architecture phase in order to best facilitate the installation of a hardware and/or software system into the ground segment. To support the various attributes of a near-flawless install, a case study of a project following a large-scale system from factory, to an integration facility, then finally to an operational ground station will supply examples of the "Do's and the Don'ts" and various lessons learned. Generic high-level process, artifacts, and measures will be discussed for consideration of future efforts.
