A cultivation model of mixed culture system is used for ceils, lactate and NH{sub}3 concentrations estimation, based on measurements of the substrate and PHB concentrations. In this mixed system sugars such as glucose obtained from food processing waste were converted to lactate by Lactobacillius delbrueckii and lactate was converted in turn to poly-β-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) by Ralstonia eutropha in one fermentor as a model system. The proposed procedure, based on the extended Kalman filtering method, is developed under assumption that the process kinetics models are known.
