We report recent progress in the further characterization of microdischarge based photodetectors. Silicon pyramidal microdischarge devices were first reported by Park et al. in 2001 [1]. Since then, improvements in fabrication have produced devices as small as (10 μm){sup}2 and arrays as large as 30 × 30 pixels [2], Previously, microdischarge devices have primarily been envisioned as optical emission sources in the ultraviolet (UV) and visible. The recent report of photodetection [3] by microdischarge devices opens up an entirely new application area.
