An Integrated Framework for Knowledge Management and Discovery of Tropical Cyclone Movements

In this paper, it describes an integrated framework (FSIADM) which incorporates satellite technology, signal processing techniques and data mining methodologies for managing meteorological information and tracking the movement of tropical cyclones. The satellite images are efficiently transformed into the signal information from the source to the sink (ground station). By applying data mining method with statistical clustering and analyzing parameter similarities, useful information is extracted fromthe signals. This involves image processing through filtering techniques to remove noises, transformation of signal for easy feature extraction and the similarity comparison for identification purpose. The system framework for identifying the tropical cyclone, its location, orientation and movements are main objectives of this study. It demonstrates the viable software design and integration of sub-systems in support of the needed functions. Tropical cyclones, extra-tropical cyclones, typhoons and hurricanes pose serious threats to human lives and properties. In the early stage of their identification, people could act proactively and minimize the damage loss. Preliminary experiments indicate that the system has been able to co-ordinate and manage information flow reasonably well and give promising result.
