The aim of this paper is the analytical determination of the individual strain energyrelease rates in a delaminated multi-layer by means of a model of plates which provides no singularstresses. The strain energy release rates are expressed as quadratic functions of the interfacial stressesat the crack tip. These expressions and pertinent delamination criteria can help predict delaminationonset and growth. As an application example, data of edge delamination tests on carbon-epoxylaminates are used for determining a mode III delamination criterion involving the correspondingenergy release rate. This criterion yields very accurate predictions and its analytical expressionvalidates from an energetic point of view a maximum stress criterion proposed in an earlier paper.
