FEM Parametric Modeling Applied to the Optimization of a Ship Structure

By describing the whole ship structure in its primary, secondary and tertiary parts: Hull Girder, Frames and Plating, respectively, and by incorporating FEM buckling analysis to a ship-like structure optimization, it was observed a significant capability of reducing the weight of the structural components, in an amount impossible to be reached by other means, since, by computer, the "best design" can be selected among thousands of different and feasible ones. It has to be made clear that the aim is not optimization algorithms but how to use them in order to optimize a ship structure by applying FEM analysis.
