摘要

Significant horizontal and vertical movements were observed in a wharf in Port Melbourne, Australia, soon after its construction. The wharf is about 280m long and was constructed using a sheet pile wall with deadman anchor tie back. About a 70m long downstream section of the wharf exhibited excessive movements indicating failure, which was then stabilised by some immediate remedial work. This paper describes an assessment of the reasons for the failure and further remedial works performed to upgrade the use of the wharf. Stress-deformation analyses, retaining wall analyses and global stability analyses of the wharf were carried out to assess the failure mechanism and also to design the remedial work. The remedial work involved installation of steel tube piles to a deeper depth for the full length of the wharf. Load testing of the wharf was also carried out following the remedial work.
