Two cases of soil improvement projects using the vacuum preloading method are described and analyzed in this paper. The first case is for an oil storage station and the second one is for road foundation. The detail of the vacuum preloading method adopted and field monitoring data are presented. Experience gained from the two projects is summarized. Factors affecting the effect of vacuum preloading and the methods for the evaluation of the degree of consolidation are discussed.
