The results of a three-dimensional numerical investigation on the interaction between conventional tunnelling and a pile supported bridge are presented. The 3D analysis was conducted on a hypothetical tunnelling condition under an existing pile supported bridge which is frequently encountered in an urban setting. The various components of the bridge including piers, piles, pile caps are explicitly modeled to attain meaningful results. The results of the analysis are analyzed so that the effect of tunnel driving on the stability of the bridge can be identified. Practical implications of the findings are discussed.
