This paper presents an integrated study into the behaviour of an air-water system in variable horizontal concentric annular geometries. Numerical simulations have been completed using a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) solver. CFD modelling results have been evaluated from the implementation and adaption of two published mechanistic models. Comparison between CFD and mechanistic models has focused upon frictional pressure drop and predicted versus observed flow patterns, and some agreement between the two approaches has been found. Some of the problems associated with CFD modelling of multiphase flows such as solution convergence and accuracy has been discussed.
