Thread tension sensors are more and more used for applications in the field of textile manufacturing. The increasing rate of automation in this field requires the use of a big number of thread tension sensors as components of closed loop controlled systems for monitoring and controlling of thread tensile forces. Therefore innovative and economical solutions with high accuracy are required. There exists a system for thread tension monitoring under development within a cooperation project, sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research BMBF and with project support by the VDI/VDE IT Teltow, Reg.-No. SV1449. This project is a part of a project frame of modular systems for the micro system technology, called "Match-X". IFW GmbH, Micro-Hybrid Electronic GmbH and M+S GmbH are responsible for the development of the sensor module. Further partners are enterprises from textile machine engineering as well as applicators and system integrators for the development of the design concept and testing of the controlling system in general. Starting point of the development was an existing thread tension sensor. The ultimatum of this sensor module is the use of a bending beam with a DMS bridge realized with thick film hybrid technology "Fig. 1" shows the layout of the DMS structure for the bending beam.
