Ep-Dlc and DNA marker-assisted selection; have been used for incorporation of LrJ9+Lr24 leaf rust resistance genes combination into adapted commercial winter wheat cultivars. The first step was transfer of the gene LrJ9 from donor cultivar 'Agrus' into acceptor cultivars 'Simona' (withouth Lr genes) and 'Livia' (with Lr26). Progenies possessing the null endopeptidase marker allele Ep-Dlc linked to the gene Lrl9 have been screened for resistance against leaf rust by isolate 4332 SaBa. Plants homozygous at the Ep-Dlc locus and resistant against leaf rust were used for crossing with NIL 'Thatcher/Z; r2- donor of the gene Lr24. Plants possessing both Lr genes were selected from Fi population by STS and isozyme markers linked to desired Lr genes. Progenies of 18 F_2 plants have been screened and selected by STS marker for homozygosity or heterozygosity at the locus Lr24 and also tested for resistance against leaf rust. Both isozyme and STS markers corresponded with resistance testing. Altogether 6 progenies of F3 generation possessing resistance gene combination Lrl9+Lr24 were developed.
