Study on the estabhshment of a gene pool for wheat germplasm tolerant to drought was carried out on the basis of the native natural climatic condition and the rule of wheat growth and development. A general procedure of evaluating the drought tolerance for wheat germplasm materials was set up; which included identifying and screening in the observation nursery; in the evaluation nursery and in the laboratory; and put forward the indices and the calculation methods for every research period. The result also showed that the establishment of gene pool for wheat germplasm tolerant to drought should be based on the branch pools of the germplasm tolerant to drought for plant height; number of grains per spike; 1000-grain weight. The special germplasm gene pool of the tolerance to drought was formed by means of stepwise polymerization; and thereby to utilize in wheat breeding for resistance drought efficiently.
