From the early 1960s and onwards, with the industrialization of construction activities, continues effort is taking place to develop solid, comprehensive, easy to use and widely approved standards and classification systems for the construction industry. Although such systems exist in abundance today and are great for demanding, complex environments, they can prove too complex and cumbersome for smaller projects. The amount of work they create will annoy the stakeholders of the project and most probably they will ignore or misuse the system. To overcome this problem a typical methodology for "downsizing" the complex classification systems and creating targeted "roadmaps" for specific construction projects is proposed. These roadmaps use existing models and systems as well as project management techniques in order to create a Knowledge Management framework easily adaptable to the unique requirements of every project.
