The paper will present the main outputs of IPRODOC project. The project aims have been the definition, adoption, testing and validation of an specific methodology able to help European SMEs to obtain a higher integration within the mechanical sector supply chain. This methodology is supported by ITC I in order to integrate the required information flow within the supply chain order to work like an unique single company. IPRODOC project ultimate goal is to turn the fragmentation of the European mechanical engineering supply chain from a weak point to an strength one, empowering flexibility in spite of complexity. Traditional design and manufacturing processes management tools and methodologies fail when the requested degree of integration is extremely high, when the distributed knowledge management becomes a must and finally, when medium, small or even micro companies are involved. The requested ultra flexibility demands to be supported by proper methodological and ICT tools, and here is where the IPRODOC project efforts have been addressed.
