We report the use of self-stabilized holographic recording techniques for the recording of a hologram in a photorefractive iron-doped lithium niobate crystal at moderately high temperature and simultaneously compensating it by allowing the diffusion of positively charged hydrogen ions. After white-light development an efficient fixed grating is obtained even for reduced samples. A fixed grating with 25% diffraction efficiency is obtained in these conditions in a reduced crystal but higher values are possible.
