Nickel aluminide (NiAl) alloys have been produced by mechanical alloying in high-energy attritor mill using elemental Ni and Al powder mixture. The mechanically alloyed powders (MA) were consolidated by hot extrusion technique resulting in materias with were fully dense with a homogeneous distribution of oxide particles and a fine grain size of less than 1 #mu# m. A NiAl cast ijngot was also hot extruded and investigated for comparison with the MA NiAl. Mechanical properties have been studied by compression testing at room temperature. The microstructues of the hot consolidated materials were also characterized to study the relationship between ductility and microstructures of NiAl.
