THE CHALLANGES OF IMPLEMENTING THE 1st LRT SYSTEM IN DUBAI, UAE

摘要

Among the main challenges that is facing the Dubai Municipality implementation of the 1st LRT System are the uncertainties related to ridership forecasts in view of the fact that approximately 85% of Dubai Population are expatriates, and to a large extent future population depends on the Dubai economic situation and the National Immigration Policy. Other challenges that would be discussed in the paper includes providing proper alignment & station location that meets the criteria and the vision of Dubai as a 1st. class city; stations context planning and joint development; and selection of the technology option. The information presented in this paper, could be useful for other fast growing cities with similar characteristics that are contemplating possible implementation of a Metro System.
