Pt/Al_2O_3 and Ni/Al_2O_3 in methane reforming with CO_2 exhibited almost the same level of activity. On the other hand, Pt/Al_2O_3 showed much higher activity in methane combustion than Ni/Al_2O_3. In the methane reforming with CO_2 and O_2 over Ni/Al_2O_3, the bed temperature of the catalyst bed inlet was high under various reaction conditions. In contrast, the bed temperature of the Pt/Al_2O_3 bed inlet was much lower than that of Ni/Al_2O_3. From the comparison between Pt/Al_2O_3 and Ni/Al)2O_3, the distance between combustion and reforming zones on Pt/Al_2O_3 can be much shorter than that on Ni/Al_2O_3. This is due to the promotion of the combustion to the reforming reaction via effective heat transfer.
