Native gold with oxysulphide inclusions and intergrowths is a common gold type in the Northern Greywacke Zone, Austria. This type of gold is associated with microfractures in tetrahedrite, ullmanite, and less often in pyrite. Four types of visible gold can be distinguished: ⅰ) silver-rich, massive gold with excellent polish, ⅱ) Ag_2Au_3Hg, ⅲ) gold with a high Cu content and fine grained inclusions of oxysulphides, and ⅳ) Cu-rich gold intergrown with cuprite, covellite and limonite, a weathering product of gold ⅰ, ⅱ and ⅲ. Oxysulphides forming intergrowths and inclusions in metallic gold are considered responsible for gold mobility.
