An investigation into consumers' preference for power generation systems was performed. It was found that most consumers preferred values that incorporated 'social acceptability' and 'environmental effect' in constructing the energy system. An analytical method to evaluate the best combination of power generation systems to meet consumers' preference was developed. It was applied in the evaluation of each of the selected combinations of systems that met each consumers' requirements. The resulting best combinations of systems were comprised mainly natural gas-fired power and hydraulic power generation system. The power systems with disadvantages in terms of the 'social acceptability' and/or 'environmental effect' were barely introduced. The duality theorem allowed us to evaluate the marginal cost of consumers' preferences. The 'social acceptability' yielded the highest marginal cost, and the 'environmental effect' was the next.
