Long Life PVDF Coatings Using Bright Organic Pigments

For many years, 70% PVDF coatings, made with durable inorganic pigments, have been the industry standard for the highest performing exterior weatherable architectural finishes. Now, new accelerated weathering studies using several methods suggest that very good outdoor weatherability may also be possible for masstone PVDF color coats, when certain weatherable organic pigments are used. Unlike the case of coatings made with less durable resins, UV absorber/HALS packages in the color coat are not required to enhance the coating performance. Color coat/clear coat PVDF systems achieve even better long term color retention, showing the same trend observed for coatings made with mixed metal oxide inorganic pigments.
