The purpose of this study was to verify the relationship of haptoglobin genotype, (Hp) with hormonal therapy and smoking, in cervix dysplasia and invasive cancer compared to apparently healthy controls. We studied 556 women, aged mean +- sd = 41,7 +-17,2 years old, 247 with pathology, compared to 348 controls. The Hp genotype was determined by electrophoresis in poliacrylamide gel. The statistics was done by X_2 test and multinomial logistic regression. Age was a risk factor for HSIL plus ICC, OR=1,030, p< 0.001. The Hp genotype modulates the risk of smoking for cancer, Hp 2.2 increasing the risk (OR=23,706) p=0,003, and the risk of hormones for cancer, Hp 1.1 (OR= 3,234) p=0,039 and Hp 2.1 (OR= 3,234) p=0,011, increasing the risk. Haptoglobin genotype seems to modulate differentially the smoking and hormone therapy risk for dysplasia and invasive cervix cancer.
