Processing of copper ores produced in several mines of the Kazakhmys Corporation (Republic of Kazakhstan) is carried out at three preparation plants. Ore characteristics from the different mines and optimum feeds to these preparation plants differ from each other. Ore production and shipping schedules are necessary to maximize production of copper concentrate from the mined ores. This communication involves a mathematical model developed to program the interaction between mines and preparation plants. Its use at Kazakhmys Corporation provided optimal control of mineral flows which resulted in increases of copper concentrate of 0.5 to 1.5 % without any additional cost.
