Refractive index is an important physical property of liquid. Refractometer, which measures the index of refraction, is widely applied in a lot oj industries. With the progressing of refractometer in the world, this thesis studies all kinds of methods in industry to measure the refractive index (RI), especially the methods and the systems based on photoelectric devices and total reflection theory. The thesis focuses on the experiment and the method to analysis and to design the system using sensors as CCD (Charge Coupled Device), PSD (Position Sensitive Detector) and photodiode, based on the total reflection theory. In detail, we compare these three methods and analyses the difference in precision realization of three methods.
