Heart Prevention in Immigrant Turkish Women - Smoking Cessation

Hear death is the No.-1-Killer for Turkish women as well as for Austrian women. We have a lot of prevention programs but none focusing on Turkish immigrant women. So, we organised meetings for Turkish women at the 29 mosques throughout Tyrol focusing on smoking cessation including a Turkish language questionnaire. Such a prevention program has been repeated every year, 2000, 2001 and 2002. In 2000, we counted 127 (14.5%) smokers and 748 (85.2%) non-smokers: in 2001, 70 (10.6%) smokers and 588 (89.4%) non-smokers; in 2002,173 (19.0%) smokers and 737 (81.0%) non-smokers, in 2002,559 (61.4%) report about any contact with a prevention program on smoking cessation until now. Out of these women 473 (84.6%) got this information from our prior mosques program. We must improve smoking cessation programs for immigrant women.
