Approach to carotid artery stenoses in patients with high risk coronary artery disease

Making sound treatment choices in advanced cardiovascular disease requires a solid understanding of the natural history of the specific arterial lesions as well as reliable comparisons of various treatments. Unfortunately, despite extensive work in both areas of inquiry, data for carotid stenosesis not yet fully resolved leading to differing points of view. In this short review, I will present the key points in my advocacy for judicious utilization of carotid stenting (CAS) even in high risk patients.
