A New Method for Calculating the Self-inductance of a Multi-turn Shielded Loop Probe

For measuring pulse magnetic field from lightning return stroke, one needs accurate sensors with simple transfer functions. Shielded loop is commonly used for measuring pulse magnetic field. The self-inductance of single-turn shielded loop is calculated using approximate formula, but the approximate formula for calculating the self-inductance of multi-turn shielded loop is inaccurate. This paper brings out an experimental method to calculate the self-inductance of multi-turn shielded loop .The experimental results indicate that the method is accurate and effective.
