摘要

Magnetorheologyical(MR) fluid, which consist of suspensions of magnetic particles and stabilizer in a carrying fluid, can be transformed from Newton fluid into viscoplastic solid rapidly in the presence of an applied magnetic field. The principle of magnetorheological effect(MRE) and the properties of magnetorheological fluids(MR fluids) are briefly introduced in this paper. The devices based on MR fluid include dampers, brakes, clutches, and hydraulic valves, polishing devices, etc. In this paper, the operation modes of MR fluid dampers are analyzed firstly, then the applications in mechanical engineering are classified and reviewed comprehensively, the application prospects of MR fluid are discussed.
