Current spectrophotometers are very good and with proper maintenance can perform very well over an extended period of time. Because of numerous design and engineering differences, they do not all agree with each other to the level that we need for the B2B exchange of spectral data. Super calibration or profiling will be needed to correct this situation, but will only work if there is international agreement on what the "correct" values of standards should be. For measurement of FWA treated materials, considerable work remains to be done. A giant step toward correcting the current problems would be the establishment of a real standard material with a real standard whiteness value associated with it. Also, this value will have to be much different than the current values that are being used, as they cause way too much UV to be included.
