The catalyst composed of zirconium tetrachloride(ZrCl_4), triethylaluminum (TEA), and ethylaluminum sesquichloride(EASC) was found to be an industrial useful catalyst for the oligomerization of ethylene[l-4]. The coordinative interaction of various organoaluminums with Zr and of various additives with Zr and Al was studied by ~(27)Al NMR, ~1H NMR and 2D NMR. The catalytic activity was influenced by coordinating of TEA to ZrCl_4, and α-olefin purity and polymer by-product were influenced by coordinating of additives to Zr and organoaluminum co-catalysts.
