Aspartase gene recombinant Escherichia co/i cells were immobilized on the surface of spherical beads. Ammonium fumarate solution was passed through a column which packed these immobilized cells at 20 °C. The conversion of the ammonium fumarate through which by LHSV=10-20 was 99% or more. Lraspartic acid was separated by adding fumaric acid to serve both as a precipitant and raw materials. It was possible to use the filtrate for the next reaction by readjustment.
