Physical model of a 5-storey steel frame structure with DEFD (Disposable Elements Friction Damping) passive energy dissipation system was designed in scale 1:4 and tested on a shaking table at IZIIS laboratory. Several earthquake records: El Centro, Northridge, Kobe and Montenegro were used as inputs for shaking table. Fifty-eight tests, using 12 different records of above mentioned earthquakes with different intensities, were conducted and 2818 channels were recorded. Computer program DRAIN-2DX has been used for mathematical modelling as well as for conducting nonlinear time history analysis. In this paper a part of the experimental results and mathematical modelling is presented and discussed.
