In this paper, the adsorption of the heavy metal ions cadmium, lead, antimony, zinc, and copper and the toxic ions tellurium, arsenic, and selenium by an iron-manganese compound adsorbent in aqueous solution was investigated. The adsorbent had relatively high adsorption capacities for Pb, Cd, Te, Cu, As and Sb ions. The adsorption capacity of the adsorbent was found to be highest when synthesized under the following conditions: at a molar ratio of Fe(NO{sub}3){sub}3·9H{sub}2O to Mn(NO{sub}3){sub}2·6H{sub}2O = 1:1.5, a final reacting pH of 11.0 and a drying temperature of 343 K. Based on the adsorption isotherms of the Cd, Te and Pb ions for the adsorbent, the maximum adsorption amounts were 40 mg/g, 70 mg/g and 395 mg/g, for Cd, Te and Pb, respectively.
