The great effort was placed on the investigation of a more suitable catalyst for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO in the last decade. The metal oxides are the most promising catalysts for the SCR of NO because of their high stability. Extensive studies have been done to investigate the activity and mechanism of the SCR of NO by hydrocarbon over Cu/Al_2O_3 and Ag/Al_2O_3 catalysts. It has been reported that the SCR of NO by C_3H_6 on Cu/Al_2O_3 and Ag/Al_2O_3 catalysts undergoes a similar mechanism. In this study, the Ag/Al_2O_3 and Cu/Al_2O_3 catalysts were evaluated and compared for the SCR of NO by C_3H_6. The correlation between the activity of catalyst for NO reduction and the adsorbed species on catalyst surface was also discussed with respect to the behavior of adsorbed species on the catalyst surface using in situ DRIFT spectra.
